As many of you know I went thru emergency hernia surgery back in July 2009. The surgeon closed me with staples. But because of my bulk then my wound ended up spreading open & became infected. Due to the prednisone for RA I am a slow healer. I spent 8 months in a rehab center on a wound vacuum. From what my surgeon tells me it is normal for the wound vac to leave "air pockets". In the Summer of 2010 these air pockets abcessed & broke open. He told me then "eventually" he would have to go back in to close them up. My surgeon had also told me in March 2010 that I had another hernia but since there was no problem with it we should just let it be. This hernia is very close to the air pockets. We talked about the surgery for the air pockets a year ago but we waited for a number of reasons. The original wound hadn't closed yet, I was having problems with my RA so I was also on more prednisone at that time than he wanted me to be, & he wanted me to be stronger healthwise.
Well "eventually" has arrived. I went to my surgeon today. He is scheduling my surgery for Mon Feb 6th. During the surgery he is going to close those "air pockets" left by the wound vac. While he's in there my surgeon said he would also fix the other hernia. He said since he is going to be in there anyway he may as well fix the other hernia now rather than wait for it to get worse. When he closes me up my surgeon said he would NOT use staples this time. He will close me with stitches instead. He also said he would close the original wound that is still weeping so it will stop since it hasn't stopped on it's own.
I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days. He said with the surgery scheduled for a Monday I should be home by the weekend. Recouperation time should be 4-6 weeks.
I went to my Cardiologist for my 6 month check-up on Monday. He said everything was OK & he is clearing me for the surgery. I think that covers everything.
Please keep me in your prayers that I stay healthy til the surgery so nothing puts it off & that everything goes well when I do have the surgery

Well, It's just over 28 hrs that I'm due at the Hosp for surgery. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the support!

Yes, I sure have. And prior to all the medical problems since 2009. From March 31, 2007 to October 24, 2008. That's 19 months. I was displaced frm my condo due to a fire that totaled my condo.
