Is this because of the fibromyalgia or something else? I am also a diabetic. I am married fo over 22 years, this oct, will be 23 years. No children. I do have a cat, Babygirl. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

I Iove your cat I just lost mine she was 16 yrs. old and was a dead ringer for your Baby girl. Regarding pain I am on morphine last resort . We all know the pain is unbearable, I know morphine is a narcotic but compared to the alternative I'll stay on the morphine

Hi Petals. I too have Fibromyalgia and various other ailments. I'm only 37 but I do understand the pain. I also get a lot of neck pain with my fibro. Some days it feels like someone is trying to hack my head off with a rusty ax. Some of the neck pain comes from spasms in my shoulders and also I have a couple of trigger points in my neck. Heat helps occasionally… massage either helps or hurts, just depends on what my body wants to do on any given day. My mother, also a sufferer, has something called a tens unit which gives mild shocks to the muscles and helps them relax a bit and sometimes I borrow that. I think I will ask my doctor about one of my own soon. Ibuprofen (the 800 mg prescription ones) alone with muscle relaxers help a tiny bit here and there. I hope some of these suggestions help.

The Tens unit helps alot for muscle spasm but not so much for the nerve pain. It does however interrupt the pain cycle of muscle spasms that aggrivate the nerve that aggrivates the muscles again…You can usually ask your physical therapist to order you one. I have one and have been using it for over a year. I now know when to use it, and when it will not help…It just another tool to help cope with the pain…Good Luck…

Hi Zephyrael ! I was diagnosed when I was 32. I have trigger points in my neck as well. Sometimes I think my whole entire body is a trigger point!!!LOL. I have tried everything that you mentioned except for the tens unit, never heard of that. I do take muscle relaxers and Ibuprofen, they sometimes help and sometimes they don't . I sure that you understand that. Thanks for the suggestions.

You're very welcome. My mom swears by her tens unit. I am going to ask my doctor about one as well as when I have borrowed mom's in the past it has helped some. Starting to get a bit chilly down here and it has my Fibro in an uproar.

What exactly does the tens unit do? My fibro hs been bad all last week. We went from thunderstorms and a tornado to freezing temps. within two days. my body was not happy about that !! It is pretty here today and in the 60's then who knows?!

The tens unit delivers mild shocks to the muscles forcing them to contract and relax. It doesn't hurt unless you turn it up too far, though it can be a bit uncomfortable. At least that's what I think it does… that's what it feels like. It does help, though. Had a cold front come through here too and my body has not been happy at all.

I go to my doctor on the 8th so hopefully I can ask him about getting my own tens unit… or at least get something done for the pain. Winter is fast approaching and I can feel it with every cold breeze.

I went to the doctor yesterday and she started me on Tramdol for the pain. So I hope that you can get something for yours. I can feel the winter coming too.

Hi Petals, I just joined the site and saw that you had fibromyalgia. I do too, I am 55 yrs old and was diagnosed about 16 yrs ago. If you look at my site you will see that I have several other chronic pain issues but they all came after the fibromyalgia. (except for the migraines which I have had all my life). So I feel your pain and them some. If you have any questions or want some help looking for answers ask I'll do what I can to help. I am 100% disabled from pain disorders

Hi GrannyCarol, sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you, haven't been feeling great lately. Do you have any advice on dealing with the pain of fibromyalgia? I am in a flare up right now.

Hi! Welcome to the site! I am so excited to get to know you better! As you know fibromyalgia causes muscle pain and "tender spots." Your neck is a "tender spot" along with your shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. Many people who suffer from fibromyalgia have headaches as well. Are you sleeping well and exercising often? Adequate sleep and exercise is known to help a great amount!
