LYRICA

LYRICA is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures. LYRICA also affects chemicals in the brain that send pain signals across the nervous system.

LYRICA is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy) or herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia).

I started taking Lyrica about a month ago for spinal neuropathy, I already take Cymbalta. I'm already noticing a slight decrease in pain. I am a diabetic.

I LOVE LYRICA!
So sorry to learn of the three negative reviews of this drug. I took 50 mg. the first night. I awakened in the morning and FORGOT to take my pain medication. My neuropathic leg pain was GONE! Also, the aching of my joints and other pain has diminished as well. Since then, the doctor accelerated by dosage to 75 mg. 2x/day. Regardless of having ALL of the negative symptoms, I agreed to try it for another four weeks to determine if the symptoms would decrease.

What I have found is that by reducing my dosage to 75 mg. at night (only), I am experiencing an amazing reduction in pain and the resulting fatigue!!!

We are all so different in the way medications affect us. BTW, I already take 150 mg. of Effexor XR, which is comparable to Cymbalta (so I can not take that drug). Since I have been sleeping too much, I am lowering my night dosage to 50 mg./night to see if I can maintain the reduction in pain and the sleepiness.

Since this drug worked for me immediately, I would suggest trying it. I wouldn't take something for a year that was "worthless"… We each have to make decisions for ourselves, as we know what "works" for us.

Best wishes to all,
Florence

I took this as well. And everything you say is true. It was worthless and I couldn't have been happier to dump it. I never noticed any pain relief whatsoever from it.

It also has the added incentive of weight gain, not something I enjoyed. It was a blessing to be removed from my medicine regiment. I gained over 50 lbs in one year, and it didn't do much for my pain either.

Pros

One of only three medications FDA-approved for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

Cons

If you stop taking LYRICA suddenly, your seizures may become worse or you may have withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms include headache, sleep problems, nausea, and diarrhea.

LYRICA may cause serious, even life threatening, allergic reactions. Stop taking LYRICA and call your doctor right away if you have any signs of a serious allergic reaction. Some signs are swelling of your face, mouth, lips, gums, tongue or neck or if you have any trouble breathing, or have a rash, hives or blisters.
