Inversion therapy involves hanging upside down or at an inverted angle with the intention of therapeutic benefits. However, it is rarely regarded as a serious treatment for back pain.

Anyone considering Inversion therapy, should consult their doctor. It was noted in another reply that it does not do much for lower back pain. I found this to be very true. It did not do a lot for my other pain sites either. Now, even if one is perfectly healthy…one does not go full out on an inversion table. Slowly, build up the degrees of inversion. There seems to be something about an inversion table that causes people to think they can just do a full inversion hang the first time they use it Not a good idea, as one can become very dizzy, get a headache etc.. forget physical. Unless someone is there to help you up…you could be there for a long time. I have also seen a person slide out and have to be caught before they broke their neck, because they did not bother to latch their feet in the retention bars. Enough from me…they can be relaxing if done correctly, but ,as far as I have found, do not have a positive effect on chronic back pain.

I have also used inversion. The table was a bit to much for me so I bought the inversion chair. I has heat and massage. It was difficult to get on and off of, but it makes some days more tolurable

On my second visit to my PM doctor 2 years ago he prescribed one of these table for me. After spending the 200.00 on the table I found out that it was not for me. He was not at first aware at the severity of my back problem. I would have to say that for someone with minor sicomfort and no serious condition this product is probably a great thing, but for all others…,beware.

I am a bit scared of this one because of my cervical fusion.

Pros

Relaxing and fun way to treat back pain.

Cons

Tough to get in position for people who have mobility issues.

People who have heart disease, high blood pressure, eye diseases (such as glaucoma), or are pregnant are at higher risk for the dangers related to inversion therapy and should consult their doctors about it first. Such people would have to progress very slowly, starting at very light levels of inversion. The first time anyone tries inversion therapy with gravity, they should be sure to have someone standing by, in case assistance is required to get out of the apparatus, or if health problems are experienced.
